MH370 Once More

1419817987707The joyous sounds of Christmas and year end parties are still ringing all around. Suddenly, the phantom of MH370 comes to roost again. Another Malaysian plane disappeared into thin air just like MH370.  This time it is an AirAsia Airbus 320 plane QZ8501 with 162 people on board, mainly Indonesians heading for Singapore from Surabaya, Indonesia. What misfortune has befallen Malaysia! Is Malaysia’s air industry jinx? Or is this sheer coincidence – to have 2 Malaysian planes vanishing into thin air and another shot down all within a year? MH17 – Mystery Relooked

an-mh17-crash-site-dataThe Malaysians have been stonewalled from the investigation of the MH17 disaster. Five months later, they must be incredibly agitated that as an owner-operator of the plane that was shot down, they have no official access to the ongoing investigations. At stake to the Malaysian Airlines are potential multi-billion lawsuits and liabilities. Out of exasperation,  20 relatives from Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, and the US filed a letter request for “the UN to appoint a special envoy to take over” the inquiries on Friday, Reuters reported. Yet again, the Netherlands rejected the demand to allow the UN to replace Dutch experts at the helm of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 investigation. Social media had alleged Netherlands is complicit in hiding facts from the public (read why Netherlands repatriated 122 tonnes of gold) . Is there something brewing that cannot be made public? No Gold? Yes Got Gold

goldIn 2013, when Germany’s Bundesbank asked to get back her gold held in the vaults in USA, Germany got a shock. The Federal Reserve did not say Germany could not get the gold repatriated. But it would take 7 years to have the 300 tonnes held by the Fed to be repatriated. A year later, Germany only got 5 tonnes of the gold back? It was strange that Germany timidly subjugated herself to the Fed’s power and did not challenge the action of the Fed. Why couldn’t Germany get her gold back. It belongs to them. The Fed is only a custodian. Read the rest of this entry »

APEC: Icy Diplomacy

abeChina welcomed world leaders to the APEC meeting with pomp and pageantry in typical well choreographed magnificent displays. Yet, beneath the glamorous facade, diplomatic protocols have reached a nadir. Nowhere in history has the world witnessed such a charade put up by world leaders in a high profile world leaders meeting. The polar vortex blasting the USA mimics its cold power at the APEC centre stage. World leaders are giving cold shoulders to each other, without intention to camouflage disdain for each other. There were no smiles, just perfunctory handshakes. Even eye contacts were visibly avoided. Such is the tense atmosphere. APEC has become the diplomat’s circus where clowns teased the world. Credibility Drought: Journalism in Crisis

Battle for Eyeballs

Battle for Eyeballs

The mainstream media (MSM) propaganda machinery all over the world is going overtime during these chaotic moments, trying to play catch up with a torrent of news, rumours and reports flooding that are the social media. Events are happening faster than the managed MSM media can handle. Most MSM reports are vetted before they could be published. Compared with the lightning speed by which social media propagates, MSM news lagged behind like historical dinosaurs. The real challenge for the reader is to be able to navigate the deluge of information and mis-information in order to form a credible opinion of reported events. For some, this may be too tiring.  MSM news for now, has a slight advantage of being “more credible” only because they have had the near virtual monopoly of news in traditional channels of reporting. This is about to change. Read the rest of this entry »

Ukrainian’s Heel

In the 2012 UN’s GDP estimates, Ukraine’s economy was ranked 52th in the world, with the total nominal GDP of USD$188 billion, and nominal per capita GDP of USD$3,900 . Ukraine was until recently, part of the USSR. With more than 60% of her 45 million Ukrainians speaking Russian, it still has strong symbiotic links with Russia. How did Ukraine get into this recent conflict involving her neighbours Russia, EU and ironically, USA, from across the globe? Does Ukraine have rich gold, oil or gas deposits that global hegemonic powers find hard to resist and are salivating over? Perhaps, perhaps not. Read the rest of this entry »

Gaza Conundrum

Three Israeli boys were kidnapped, then murdered. The bodies were found on 30 June 2014. Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) adopted a “no stone unturned” attitude to pursue the perpetrators of the cold blooded murder with its Operation Brother’s Keeper. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was adamant that Hamas killed the teenagers. Tempers flared – vengeance! In a tit for tat consequence, a Palestinian teenager was abducted from East Jerusalem and murdered. As the cries for blood grew louder on both sides, rockets started raining down on Israeli soil from Gaza while IDF pounded targeted Gaza rocket launching sites. A week later on 8 July 2014, IDF launched Operation Protective EdgeRead the rest of this entry »

MH17 & Ukraine

Today’s news highlight Ukrainian rebels handing over MH17 black boxes to the Malaysian authorities. After days of bitter mass media onslaught on Putin by the rest of the world, one crucial episode of this tragic event appeared to come to a close. But really, what can a black box tell? Are we being fooled by these media commotion and psy-ops just because a box was found? Will truth be ever revealed in this incident? Events in the aftermath of 911 only confirm that no truth is likely to emerge. But that was 911, will MH17 be any different?

The 911 incident involved the USA and some purportedly rouge people identified as Al Qaeda and led by an obscure Osama Bin Laden. This little group never made it to the news until the USA decided to make a spectacle of it. Whoever Al Qaeda is, it is no match for the US military might and propaganda machinery. When the US decided to demonise Al Qaeda after 911 and summarily decided that it is the mastermind of the event, it was fait accompli. In this MH17 case, the US is not dealing with an unknown group but against another super nuclear power. A giant bear is awakened. With each prodding, it groaned and stirred, not yet springing into rage. What are the chances that the bear will continue to acquiesce to scurrilous accusations and let matter rest?
