Beware the Beast

666Two thousand years ago, an old man by the name of John was incarcerated at the island of Patmos. In those days, Patmos was used by the Romans for political prisoners such as John. John did no crime other than being faithful to his Jesus whom he had been associated with while Jesus walked on earth. It was here that history took a major step forward. John was given a “revelation” of Jesus Himself. In that stunning series of visions, the future of the world was played out before John, leaving him stunned as frightening scenes of disasters were flashed before him.

For believers who believed Jesus Christ as the slain and resurrected Son of God, life would not be quite the same if not for those revelations that John received and penned. It would be incomplete if believers were not told how the future of man will unfold. In Revelation, faith and hope is further reinforced as prophetic events start to unfold before humanity. Paradoxically, Revelation is a book concealed rather than revealed. Even though it is meant to reveal, it still is a mystery. Just like reading a book, the adrenalin gets pumped up as the mystery starts to unfold in world events. Bit by bit, prophecy becomes reality.

One of the greatest mystery is in Revelation 13:16-17:

16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Until recently, it is almost impossible to imagine how this mode of “financial transaction” is possible. How would a mark, which is the name of the beast, be the sole authority for buying and selling. Is it possible to force everyone to embed a mark in the right hand or the forehead? It seems to preposterous, until now. Technology now opens the frontiers for the emergence of “the beast”.

In the narrative, it was not mentioned that the mark will be forced upon man. All it said was that “the beast” caused the mark to be implanted. When Apple introduces a new product, throngs queued in rain or shine just to be the first to lay hands on it. There was no coercion. When Google came around offering free services like emails and maps, people gladly sign up for them. Facebook attracted millions who willingly offered personal data and a total loss of privacy. Again no coercion.

The mystery of Revelation is slowly being revealed, as the veil is peeled off like onion skins. Implantation of the mark now becomes not just a possibility, but a certainty. People will willingly offer their right hand or forehead for the mark for the “convenience” and “security”. Gone will be cumbersome wallets and security passes can codes to remember. Fraud is hard to perpetrate unless the hand or head is lopped off. Who says the beast will force the mark upon man? Man will seek the mark!

Revelation 1:1
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
